No person should ever be denied access to justice due to income, disability, or identity. Access Justice Brooklyn partners with compassionate pro bono attorneys to provide high-quality, civil legal services that help ensure equal access to the legal system. Please see the criteria below to help determine whether you may be eligible for our services.

Eligibility

Do you live in Brooklyn? Access Justice Brooklyn is only able to assist full-time residents of Brooklyn, New York.

What is your annual income? Similar to other legal service agencies, Access Justice Brooklyn uses income guidelines to determine who is eligible for free help. The guidelines are based on a percentage of the federal poverty level. Access Justice Brooklyn can assist residents of Brooklyn living at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines.


Access Justice Brooklyn’s dedicated staff and volunteer legal professionals provide direct civil legal services and assistance and participate in and facilitate clinics, hotlines, and other types of legal education. Our primary areas of service prioritize essential aspects of life, with a focus toward family stability, aging safely and comfortably, personal finances, housing, and freedom of movement.

By completing our Online Intake, you are asking Access Justice Brooklyn for assistance with a legal problem. We will review your submission, determine if you are eligible, and evaluate if we are able to provide you with free legal services.

NYC Well is New York City’s free, confidential support, crisis intervention, and information and referral service for anyone seeking help for mental health and/or substance misuse concerns, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. NYC Well offers talk, text and chat in English, Spanish and Mandarin/Cantonese. NYC Well also offers telephone interpretation in over 200 languages.

NYC Well is operated by Vibrant Emotional Health on behalf of the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
